Prisen av Strøm was a site specific performance that took place at a fish ladder in Skien town centre in March 2022.
The performances address public uproar about soaring electricity prices and featured Kirsty Kross in two of her artistic personas- the Coral Trout as well as Miss Liquidity an opportunistic artist/consultant climbing neo-liberal capitalist systems. The performances took place at the state of the art Fisketrappene that was constructed in Skien’s harbour to protect the breeding capabilities of local marine life. However, Prisen av Strøm takes inspiration from Ibsen’s, En folkefiende in which constructions are not what they seem. The performance was interrupted by the ghost of Ibsen who revealed that many fish are actually killed whilst swimming downstream in the neighbouring hydroelectricity plant. Both performances asked, “Do we genuinely want to protect water and it’s life forms?” “Or do we just use water to perpetuate our cosy and abundant lifestyles?”
The March performance was on World Water Day and coincided with Ibsen’s annual birthday celebrations in Skien. On Halloween 2022, the performance was re-staged, in which Miss Liquidity took the form of a ghost/jellyfish masquerading as an American team building consultant.
